How long should you wait to ask for a second date?

Ask within about a day, and aim to actually meet within a week. That is the guidance in Tawkify's 2025 guide from the matchmaking service Tawkify: show interest early, because waiting more than a day can read as lukewarm, and keep the second date inside roughly a week. The timer above turns that into zones and a send-by time.

Waiting is not a strategy. A specific day and time is.

How the timer decides

0 to 24 hWarm. Say you enjoyed it and ask.
1 to 3 daysStill fine. Be specific so it feels deliberate.
3 to 7 daysCooling. Send dated options today.
7 days +Late, not lost. Be direct and give an easy out.

Zones are our rule of thumb built on the guide above, not survey data. Your read of the date counts more.

A mini story: day four

Saturday's date was good. By Wednesday nothing has been sent, because Sunday felt too keen and Monday got busy. The timer says cooling. So, Wednesday lunch: three options in one link, Friday after work, Saturday morning coffee, Sunday afternoon walk. Their reply picks Saturday. The worry lasted four days; the asking took two minutes.

An illustrative scenario we wrote, not a user story.

Who this is not for

One design decision we made: SecondYes never sends anything for you, and the person you invite never needs the app. Asking someone to install software to answer you would be a strange way to say "I like you".

Second-date timing questions

How long should you wait to ask for a second date?

Not long. Tawkify's 2025 guide says to show interest early, notes that waiting more than a day can read as lukewarm, and suggests having the second date within about a week. Our timer uses those as its zones.

Is the three-day rule still a thing?

As a rule, no. Waiting three days on purpose mostly adds three days of guessing for both of you. If you enjoyed the date, saying so the same night or next morning is fine.

What if they don't reply for a day?

Give it a day or two. People are busy. One clear, specific invitation is enough; a second nudge a few days later is reasonable, a third is not.

Is it too late to ask after two weeks?

Not necessarily, but be direct about it: say you enjoyed meeting them, offer a specific day, and give them an easy way to decline.

Does SecondYes send the invitation for me?

No. You build up to three plans and send the link yourself through your usual messaging app. They reply in a web browser, no app or account needed.

Is SecondYes free?

Free to download, your first invitations are free, and replying is always free. SecondYes Pro (monthly or yearly) adds unlimited invitations, Ready 3, Instant 3, Calendar Fit, Plan Again and unlimited saved ideas and idea spins.
